The names of number 1 and 2 vary according to gender. The numbers 1- 15 have to be simply learned and understood, while numbers 16- 19 are shaped by the name of the unit digit to the stem dez- (10), although in few cases –as- or –a- are placed between the two parts.

One must have noticed that while forming most numbers the word e (and) is included between the two parts. For example: 28 is vinte e oito, 32 is trinta e dois.
