It is spoken by more than 250 million people on four continents.During 15th and 16th centuries, Portugal established a colonial empire that included Timor in South-East Asia, Macau in China, Goa and other parts of India, Brazil in South America and the five African countries that make up the PALOP lusophone area: Mozambique, Angola, Sao Tome e Principe, Guine-Bissau and Cape Verde.
